Description: In this paper the author suggests that we can employ the Hegelian theory of intersubjectivity, which is based on the idea of mutual recognition, to gain an insight into identity formation in general, and the formation of the Croatian identity in particular. Part of the presentation includes a summary account of how Hegel formulates this theory and the way it should influence the structure of the state community. Against this backdrop the author sets up a thought experiment to show how a non-Croat could potentially become a Croat, and thereby participate in the Croatian identity.
