Description: Many academics are using electronic tools to detect breaches of academic integrity such as plagiarism, but some students have identified techniques for avoiding detection. In this paper the authors evaluate some recent developments and review attempts to maintain standards of academic integrity at five tertiary institutions in Australia and New Zealand. They argue that a combination of education, detection and appropriate institutional policies and processes are needed to address what appears to be a growing problem.
