Description
Along with the description of the deconstruction of the textual which toys with the relationship between the trivial and modern, the report also deals with the macro-structural tactics of irony and ironic intentions in Krleža’s first novel, namely, Krleža’s deconstruction of the typical pattern of the irony of fate which ensured under the influence of expressionist poetics. Within that context the relationship between the author’s intentions and possible interpretative possibilities is analysed through the examination of macro structural narrative tactics and the formation of narrative focal points semantically layered as the irony of fate in respect to lost and incomplete characters, those who were not led by the linear story of the novel to a “logical end” but have nevertheless ended and those whose tragic end was inevitable but who have gone on living (pointlessly). Similar narrative sequences will be motivated in a different manner in Flags. In that novel the ironic eye, free from the direct pressure of the author’s intention. Will be decoded through a system of successive negations of the narrated, as the postmodern destabilization of the authoritative unity of the narrated. This only reasserts Krleža’s known trait of not following the developmental tendencies of other literatures but of shaping them, while subliming corresponding influences, within the framework of national literature.
