- Description
- This paper adopts Avery's 19 sustainable leadership practices derived from Rhineland enterprises as a framework to examine the sustainable business practices of a healthcare service provider in Thailand. Middle-range thinking methodology, including interviews and observations, identified six core sets of practices that are consistent with the 19 sustainable leadership practices: a focus on long-term perspective, staff development, strong organizational culture, innovation, social responsibility and ethical behavior. These core themes sharply contrast with enterprises that adopt the prevailing Anglo/US business model of short-term maximization of profitability. The paper concludes that Avery's 19 Rhineland practices may provide a framework applicable to enterprises in Thailand to evaluate their own corporate sustainability.
