Description: Vietnam has cautiously introduced a privatization program for State Owned Enterprises (SOEs) since 1992 adopting a different approach when compared with Western countries. This paper focuses on investigating the effects of listing, by comparing changes in the financial performance of privatized firms on a pre- and post listing basis. The study uses a sample of 33 privatised firms. Our results provide a substantial contribution to the current debate in the literature surrounding the effects of privatisation and ownership change, especially in developing countries, and this paper may assist policy makers in directing future privatization initiatives.
