Description: This paper is part of a wider research project to explore how distinctions in hegemonic constructs (respect, power and authority) contribute to students’ perceptions of quality in business schools. The data is derived from a survey administered to first year accounting students in the UK, Australia and New Zealand. The research question is: does the ethnicity of students affect the qualities they respect in their teachers? This study includes analysis of how to determine ethnicity as an independent variable, and finds that the survey responses suggest ethnicity impacts in unexpected ways on the different qualities they respect in their teachers.
