Description
We report a novel fibre-coupled end-pumping geometry, applied in the context of a copper vapour laser (CVL) pumped Ti:sapphire laser, with the intention of addressing complications associated with coupling the pump beam into the Ti:sapphire cavity mode in this laser scheme. Two Ti:sapphire cavity configurations were implemented. The first of these resulted in output powers of up to 2 W at a pulse repetition frequency (PRF) of 6.2 kHz and slope efficiencies over 40%. High peak power output (up to 90 kW) in 3.3 ns pulses was obtained via a second, shorter cavity.
