Description
Australia has developed a social and economic identity strongly influenced by its physical isolation as an island continent with a relatively small population. This article describes 4 linked strategies being implemented to position New South Wales public libraries for success in the emerging information economy in Australia. These strategies of promoting Internet access, creating client-focused content and services, developing strategic partnerships and renewing a sense of place are all connected by a common desire: to conquer the “tyranny of distance”.
